The Beginners Guide to Filecoin
Filecoin is a decentralized storage network which enables anyone to rent out spare storage space on their computer. Complementary to the IPFS protocol, Filecoin has its own native cryptocurrency, FIL, which acts as a payment protocol that connects buyers and sellers of storage in the IPFS ecosystem. As a peer-to-peer network, Filecoin connects two main players: the users and storage providers. Filecoin enables users to store their files at hypercompetitive prices and verify that their files are being stored correctly, while simultaneously enabling storage providers to sell their storage on an open market. The users are the customers, or individuals in the market that are looking to hire storage from the storage providers that have implemented the Filecoin protocol, whereas the storage providers are the miners, and are rewarded with FIL for contributing storage to the network.
